Kallo: Gluten-Free Goodness

Sunday 17th May marked the end of Coeliac Awareness Week, an entire week dedicated to raising awareness of the symptoms of coeliac disease, a common lifelong disease which is caused by an intolerance to gluten. Around half a million people are living with coeliac disease undiagnosed, and suffering from symptoms ranging from bloating to nausea to constipation to unexpected weight loss - so if you've got any of these symptoms, it's important to get a diagnosis so that you can change your diet and live a healthy life!

Speaking as someone who has close relatives with gluten intolerance, it's super easy to alter your diet to exclude gluten, as there are so many supermarkets with 'free from' ranges, and many health stores and independent food shops offer a special section for those with intolerances.

Kallo is one brand which makes delicious alternatives to all the naughty treats we love, like cakes, pastries and biscuits. Everything they make is natural with lots of wholegrains, and has no MSG or artificial additives, so they're healthy for everyone, not just those with coeliac disease or intolerances!

I tried Kallo's  Belgian Dark Chocolate Organic Rice Cake Thins* and, although the name is a mouthful, the snacks themselves are rather moreish. I'm a huge fan of dark chocolate, so these were perfect for me! The rice cake portion filled a nice little spot in my tummy, while the chocolate topping made it into a delectable treat which I happily enjoyed with a cup of tea.

If you're a tad peckish at any point during the day, these are an ideal, guilt-free (only 55 calories per Rice Thin!) snack which you can easily pop in your bag in the morning ready for work. They're rich in fibre, have no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives, are vegetarian friendly, and gluten-free.

Want to try these for yourself? Kallo is available from a range of stockists, including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Holland & Barrett. The Rice Cake Thins are around £1.90, the same as - if not less than - a pack of cupcakes, cookies or doughnuts. And you'll feel all the more better for it!
