The High Street Edit: January 2014

SS14 collections are creeping unavoidably into the shops, and ever encroaching is that inevitable dilemma of braving Summer's short, pastel skirts and light, silky blouses during the rest of our eight-month Winter, or finding a way around it.

One option is to merge seasons with those AW13 staples, and create an outfit that is both on-trend and practical for the UK's frustratingly unpredictable weather. Here are some ideas to get you started!

TMI Tag!

Bloggers are like best friends; we're down to earth and always up for a girly chat about our latest MAC purchases and Topshop hauls. But aside from fashion and beauty, it's great to know a little bit more about whose blog you're reading, or whose video you're watching.

I always love to find out a bit more about my favourite bloggers, like what they like to do when they're off-duty and what music they're listening to.

So, I've videoed the TMI tag, to let my lovely readers and YouTube subscribers find out a little bit more about me!

I hope you enjoy, and if you have anymore questions you'd like me to answer, leave a comment or pop an email in my inbox - if I get enough, I'll make a little compilation video!

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Review

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Let me introduce you to one of my favourite purchases of the decade - Revlon's newest addition to their lip product range, the Colorburst Matte Balm!

My skin is naturally slightly dry, which means that my lips are prone to cracking when I put on lipstick. I've gone through a ridiculous amount of lipsticks, balms, crayons and glosses, but the only ones that have any moisturising qualities seem to be the most expensive. I completely understand that you get what you pay for with certain lip products, especially lip balms, as some manufacturers place an ingredient in their products that deliberately dries the skin on lips to trick the consumer into buying more.

But surely there are some excellent lipsticks skulking in the shadows of the makeup counters that really do a great job for a low price.

At £7.99, Revlon's Matte Balm proves this theory correct! I couldn't stop myself from smiling, as that makes it the cheapest high quality lip product in my makeup bag.

I purchased three similar shades, as Boots had a 3 for 2 on all Revlon products. I've swatched these in the photograph below:

It's unusual for me to wear red lipstick, but I can honestly say that 'Striking' makes me want to wear it everyday. The two pinks, 'Showy' and 'Elusive', are the definition of pretty, and would look stunning for a day or night look!

Check out the video below for more info and a demonstration for each colour:

2014 Bucket List

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There are so many things I want to do and experience this year - it's hard to fit it all in one video and I'm sure I'll kick myself later when I think of something I missed out.

Hopefully, 2014 will be a year for travelling, taking photos and enjoying the time I get before university ends. I'm hoping to take this blog so much further, to give you lovely readers more for what you've given me!

   Enjoy!

Brilliant Earth Personality-Style Challenge

It's always been a philosophy of mine to be true to myself and my own individuality, so when Jamie from Brilliant Earth contacted me about their unique personality challenge, I was super excited about the opportunity!

As a fashion blogger, my outfits often change with trends, but I always try and add a bit of my own style. The mood board below represents a little slice of my personality, teamed with pieces from Brilliant Earth's range of ethical jewellery.

Their 18ct White Gold Luna Ring is simple, yet stunning, and would make a perfect addition to any outfit. Alongside this, their 14ct Rose Gold Moon Studs are so on trend, and fit in with my love of mythical and magical jewellery. Finally, their minimalist 18ct White Gold Fairmined Bar Pendant speaks for itself, and would look elegant paired with any colour-theme. Overall, these pieces contribute to an understated, simple personality style and look; I love to keep things simple - as Da Vinci said, "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".

Having worked in jewellery for several years, I'm so pleased to see a company with ethics and humanity in mind. Brilliant Earth are recognised for their ethically sourced diamonds and engagement rings, and they give back to the workers who mine them. A world away from the horrific struggle caused by the mining of conflict diamonds, and other minerals, it's sometimes difficult for consumers to understand the gravity of what's at hand; however, companies like Brilliant Earth make us aware that steps can taken to eradicate this problem, and actively help to shape a better future for the diamond mining industry.

Miu Miu's New Muses

Bella Heathcote for Miu Miu spring/summer 2014

Images c/o vogue.co.uk

The Italian brand, Miu Miu, has handpicked four stunning young women to front its SS14 campaign.

Shot by duo, Inez & Vinoodh, the campaign features 26 year old Australian actress, Bella Heathcote; 24 year old American actress and little sister to two of my favourite fashion icons, Elizabeth Olsen; 15 year old American actress and, again, younger sister to a fabulous icon, Elle Fanning; and 30 year old 12 Years A Slave actress from Kenya, Lupita Nyong'o. Known for featuring emerging talent, Miu Miu has featured fashion favourite, Hailee Steinfeld, and the gorgeous Mia Wasikowska in their previous campaigns.

All four ladies look absolutely stunning in Miu Miu's mix of block brights and tans, set against plain jewel-toned backdrops, but which one's your favourite? Let me know what you think of this campaign!

Student's Guide to Makeup Brushes

As a student, I know the importance of counting the pennies. My January spending ban is going well - incredulously, I've only spent money on stamps this week (goddamn 60p stamps, no wonder writing letters has become a such a novelty) - but I'm feeling the shopping-pangs in a huge way. It doesn't help that Missguided are constantly sending me emails full of deliciously tempting goodies at half price. The January sales are my undisputed enemy right now.

A few fellow students have asked me about cheap, quality makeup brushes, so I decided to put together a post of my favourite brushes under £15 to help those of you on a budget!

I've bought a fair few high-end brushes which I've been very impressed with. I trust brands like Bobbi Brown and MAC to provide very high quality bristles that don't fall out, and that distribute product evenly without build-up; however, once I'd discovered that brands such as Real Techniques do the exact same thing for half the price, it was an easy decision to convert.

Perfume Collection: Favourite Scents

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Over the years I amass bottles and bottles of fragrances, some of which I'm in love with, some which I regret buying (i.e. Lacoste 'Touch Of Pink' - definitely not my scent). I've collected a handful of lovely perfumes that have been my staples lately: a plethora of girly, flowery and sultry smells that can instantly brighten my day, or prepare me for a night out with my girls.

The first is 'La Petite Robe Noire' by Guerlain. I bought this very recently in the January sales (you might've seen me talk about it in my latest haul video). This is such a deep, sensual fragrance; it's not hard to feel a little bit sexy when you spray this on! It's a unique mix of rose, black cherry, almond and licorice, and the bottle reminds me of a little French armoire.

The next scent is a fragrance brought out by Gwen Stefani back in 2008 called 'Harajuku Lovers'. This comes in four different styles, with little figures on top. I bought the style 'G', which includes Summery notes of mandarin, coconut, apple and magnolia, among others.

For my birthday last year, my boyfriend treated me to Marc Jacobs 'Honey', a beautiful, light scent in a gorgeously quirky bottle. Like most of Marc Jacobs' other perfumes, the bottle is adorned with little embellishments - in this case, faux pearls with bumblebee wings. The scent itself includes honeysuckle, pear, apricot, mandarin and golden vanilla.

My sister introduced my to Vera Wang's 'Princess' when I was younger, and I've always wore this scent since. It's a fun, girly fragrance with essences of guava, waterlily, vanilla, amber and dark chocolate, and the bottle is shaped like a delicate heart. It also features a wearable gold-coloured ring, which I never actually wore, but I thought it was cute. I must admit, I've only tried a couple of Vera Wag's other perfumes, but this is the only one I like.

My final favourite fragrance from my personal collection is NYC by Sarah Jessica Parker, emerging from my ever-lasting love of sickly sweet perfumes. This fun scent has tones of strawberry and gardenia, and the bottle screams Sex & the City. I was totally in love with this when I bought it, and I still am now!

January Sale Haul 2014: ASOS, River Island & More!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

   Happy New Year!

The January Sales are never usually this good to me, but this year I found some beauties that I'm really happy with, and that I hope inspire your future sale runs! The brands that I've included are ASOS, River Island, New Look and Guerlain, and most of the items were on sale, bar a few.

I've decided to go on a spending ban this month (though I'm sure I'll fail epically) - I'm trying to save up for a new video camera. The Canon 600d is what I'm aiming towards, as it upgrades from my current 450d by around 6 megapixels, plus it takes HD video.

However, despite the spending ban, I'll still be posting reviews and tutorials, as well as OOTDs so that you (and I) can still receive a stable dose of Art Style Love!

I hope you enjoy this video, and please comment with links to your sale hauls - I'd love to see what you've bought!
