Product Review: Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon

With the emergence of eye crayons and the shift away from eye shadows to a more user-friendly product, I decided I should dip into the trend with the Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon.

I elected a black shade as I haven't donned black lids for a while now, plus I didn't want to purchase a bolder colour in case I didn't like the product - as always, black is safe.

I'm not really a fan of eyeshadow. I don't like applying it. I don't like blending it. I don't like how it fades/melts down my face towards the end of the day. So the eye crayon offered an alternative to a banal segment of my beauty routine.

What attracted me to the Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon was the fact that I have used Barry M products for as long as I've used make up, so I find them to be a trustworthy company when it comes to attractively priced cosmetics. The pen itself looked appealing, simply with the phrase 'super soft' - anything soft is one thing, but super too? I though this deserved some attention.

Applying the crayon to my eyelids was so easy - so much easier than fiddling around with an eyeshadow - I just smeared the crayon over my upper eyelid and the colour appeared bold and consistent. If you go over the same area two or three times, you can achieve an even bolder look.

As the colour is so bold, it does need blending. You can either do this with your finger, or do as I did and apply a very small touch of light cream shadow.

You can also use the crayon as an eyeliner. I used it on my bottom lash line and simply smudged it in with my finger before reapplying to define the line.

   This was my final look:

The cream shadow blends in nicely with the black crayon, creating a versatile day-or-night smokey eye.

The downside to this pen is the build up of product (as you can see in the photograph below). As it is a very soft crayon, the product collects in the eye crease and creates an ugly line. I really don't like this side-affect, however a simple reapplication of the pen every so often will keep your eye makeup from looking faded.

  1. Love the look you created - maybe a cream shadow underneath would help to stop it from creasing?
